"Riley"
Riley is a beautiful split-face, male Border Collie believed to be around 5 years old.
He was most likely a much loved dog at one time. However, his former owner moved to a nursing home
and Riley apparently had no other family to care for him. So, Riley was left in the backyard
of a rental home in the Houston, Texas area where he was fed by the landlord for about a year.
Unfortunately, the only thing Riley received during that year was food. The landlord
needed to rent the home out and needed to do something with Riley. But,
he didn't want to take him to the local shelter where he was sure to be euthanized. So,
he contacted the Border Collie Rescue Texas, Inc.
(BCRT) for help. We then took Riley into foster care from BCRT and had him checked by a veterinarian where he came
up positive for heartworms. Riley immediately underwent heartworm treatment and has since been
declared heartworm free. He is now an energetic, fun-loving, ball-retrieving Border Collie
in the prime of his life!
Riley is shy with strangers but once he gets to know you he is a sweet, loving dog who cannot
get enough affection. He follows us around from room to room all day, never in the way,
just somewhere in the area where he can keep an eye on things. He has had to re-learn his
house manners but has learned very quickly and has been eager to please. He is so affectionate
that he has learned most commands with nothing more than a pat on the head as a reward. Riley
is a medium energy dog that would thrive in a home where he could learn plenty of new things,
take walks, and play ball or flying disc to his heart's content or your arm gives out. He has
some agility training and could continue doing that with a bit more socialization. He does not
seem to do well with cats but has done really well with our children and other dogs.
He is neutered, house-broken and crate trained. He is very healthy and current on all his
vaccinations and heartworm preventative.
